1200 8V Sport - Advice

I think that is a very prudent move. A small price to pay for the extra peace of mind.

I agree with the extra oil changes.

How easy is it to drop the sump and remove the oil filter, any special tool reqd to get at the filter, and is it just a matter of removing the 14 sump bolts and the oil feed pipe ?

Thanks

Depends which model you are talking about. On all the new models you don’t touch the sump, but you do need one of those oversized socket spanners to undo the filter from underneath.

Brian, it’s an 8v Griso.

So, will need a car type filter tool as the filter itself is recessed and hard to access. Guess the only reason to drop the sump would be to check for any gloop and clean it out.

Cheers

From memory it’s a 76mm filter socket with 14 faces. The earlier ones had 7 faces.

I borrowed a removal tool from a mate. Luckily the filter hadn’t been put on too tight and unscrewed OK. Moral: when you put the new filter on, oil the rubber sealing ring with engine oil and screw it up hand tight, then just a bit more with the tool - don’t overtighten it or you’ll have a devil of a job to get it off next time.

Keep yer 2 valver the V11 Le mans is so much better to ride than the 1200 sport, but that is my opinion and counts for nuffin’

Thanks all, will see if Halfords do a cheap tool. I always smear some oil on and in the past have always just done them up as hard as I can by hand. Cheers

Bought mine from Halfrauds.
