I keep forgetting we are talking about the LM1000. I had always assumed (wrongly?) that the twin-pull on mine (1976 850 LM) was OEM. So then the LM1000 has single pull.
Small Single cable at twistgrip to splitter which screws into switch housing then into 2 cables to hi top carbs with external springs. Standard on a 1989 LM1000.
As was said earlier in the post, you can remove the external springs and fit lighter internal springs on top of the slide, however you donāt need to fit flat tops to the carbs, I kept the bell crank tops so thereās no need to replace any of the original cables or twistgrip, , Iāve never had any issues with the slides hanging up and Iāve lost count of how many miles Iāve done with this set up now.
Itās easier to see in the attached pic
Excellent Keef, thanks for that. I had tried removing the external springs but slides wouldnāt close but poss because my old cables were far worse than I thought with age, gunk and wear. Have cleaned everything and ordered new cables and will try again once cables arrive. (Not in stock at Gutsibits). Hoping it should be much better without replacing the internal springs, donāt mind it not being a super light throttle but mine had gotten ridiculous. Thanks again and appreciate the pic
Have you tried just disconnecting the cables and moving the slides with just the lever the nipple fits in ? At least you will know which bit is causing the problem ?
As you can see these slides are from a high milage bike, about 85k but never had any issues with them and Iām using the lightest springs Eurocarb could supply.
My other lemans has flat carb tops , Venhill cables and Tomasselli throttle and to be honest thereās no difference between each set up to use them, I think I like the look of the bellcranks more though, unfortunately they were already missing from that bike when I bought it
I havenāt to be fair, as once I removed the cables and saw they needed replaced I left it at that until the cables arrive. I assume the lever at the side of the carb should move easily and smoothly?
Yes,itās as easy as that, Iām assuming you have already got some internal springs fitted, otherwise thereās nothing to push the slides back down
yes I have
Will get back to it once cables arrive. Whenever thatāll be
Cheers, J
A little late to the discussion. My LMV throttle is manageable for my aged and arthritic hands. A PO had changed the carb tops. I have fitted medium strength return springs which work fine. Grip Puppy handlebar grips work well as does the slip on throttle assist which was a £3 bargain from Stafford Show.
Good luck with the mods. The LMV experience is well worth it.
No problem and thanks for taking the time to reply. Much appreciated. Merry Christmas
