Dismantle Bosch starter pre-engaged solenoid

My starter has been badly painted in the past & I’m stripping to repaint (thought crackle black would look good?) I want to dismantle the pre-engaged solenoid, but even with the screws out it doesn’t come apart, though the end-cap is loose. Any one know how it finally should separate?
Thanks

You have to dig out the insulation and then unsolder the wiring for the windings before the end cap comes off.

Great thanks.
Are the brush/spring repair kits still available?

Gutsibits can supply the brushes but check at a Bosch service centre also.

Good guide to rebuilding the starter here

Good link, nice one Don. I sprayed mine silver Smoothrite and had the end cap chromed.

Yep. But that one is well manky!
