Le Mans 1000 exhaust

Previously posted on wrong topic. But here we go.

Hi all
I am looking to upgrade my exhausts on my 1991 le mans 1000. It currently has the Keihan exhausts but i want something with a more impressive sound and a little more open exhaust flow.
I was looking at the Zard system but i find it rather expensive although people say it is really good for sound and flow.
Also the Lafranconi Competizione system seems to get some good reviews.
Can anyone comment on these two systems and any other ones which are still available.
Any comments very much appreciated.
Thanks
Maik

I had the Lafranconi Competizione on my LM1, they’re basically empty cones with like a grill at the end, too loud for my liking really, the novelty quickly wore off and became just annoying, and once I was asked by a friend I was visiting could I push it to the end of the cul-de-sac before starting it up when leaving his place at 11 pm. (True!) They also rusted like crazy. Got a second pair to fix that, then shortly after went to something with more sane noise levels.

Hi and thanks very much for your reply. I’m just after something more open as i found the Keihan mufflers rather restricted. Engine braking is like pulling the brakes.
I might give the Lafranconis a try.

Maik

The engine braking may just be how it is. I don’t think less restrictive exhaust will change that. I didn’t notice any difference.

Thanks once again. Just going off my Breva 11. The change of the exhaust was a game changer. Almost like lifting a weight off its chest.

On my MK4 with Keihans, I simply opened up the small 12mm hole in the baffle plate that you can see when you look down the silencer to about 30 mm, it makes a big difference to the sound, I also run proper K&N filters with 230 main jets, it runs really nicely :sunglasses:
