While painting the rear brake disc on the le mans I noticed this crack. It only showed up with paint. The bike has done thousands of miles with the disc like this, or has it? Thoughts? anyone had this happen?

As it is not on the braking area it may be weldable.Someone with more welding knowledge than myself (not difficult) may help.
Cast iron Ian…would the heat not distort the disc?
I don’t know.Could you drill it and put a metal shoulder on it.I am working on the basis that 2nd hand ones are not available as that would be yout best option.
send me the dimensions and i might have one
i would not weld it being cast as it will cetainly distort and cast welding is not that brilliant on small parts like this
need to know diameter
thickness from the outside of mounting face to outside of brake face (basicall overhall thickness
how many fixing holes
inside diameter of mounting centre

Cast iron can be welded (special rods), but the whole thing needs to be heated up first to stop distortion. However a replacement might be more sensible.
Am I missing something, can you not just sling it and get a 2nd hand one? Speshly as they’re all the same for the Tonti’s. Even a new one is a much better solution IMO, Gutsibits have em pretty sure (and 2nd hands)
Ray, as Mike H says all the early Tonti’s had the same cast disc except the lemon ones were drilled.
if they are the same then i will have some spares
(after i make sure i have some for my new bike)
Ray if it lloks like the photo it will be fine. When they changed they went to a 2 piece design
Cast Iron can be sorted with specialist arc rods you need to search for “repair welding rods” some of the best were made by Lynn Alloys but I have no idea if they are still around.
The weld comes out no where near as cruddy as most cast welding. YOU can get special heat sink to protect the parts from distortion. They used to supply these to the Bell foundry and they needed cast iron repairs that would look neat and function as well as not distort the metal.
i have two dimensionally the same discs but differnt style
The one on t6he left wins.Though it looks by its lip to be slightly thinner.Either should fit.
Thanks guys…Ex smoking. The disc on the right is a T3 item is it not? Disc on left looks similar to the lm one. Not sure, my disc is drilled and new items are €150!!!. Wouls prefer the drilled one …but…Are you selling these? Thanks again.
You can use a plain one OK, the holes just fill up with crud anyway. According to your pic, the LH one looks the same. Yes RH is all other Tonti’s, although mine uses that style too, as needs the cut-outs to release the caliper mount which incorporates a spindle spacer. Just like Spada etc.
Have sent you a PM
