Has anyone had problems MOT link’t brakes.
I bought a targa about about 15 years ago
as a podject bike but it was ok so i decided
to ride it for couple of years.
Clear it up ,fix a through thing and of to get it MoT
It fault on the link brake because the clock when’t up then drop .
He said it was a damaged dice i told him i thing it
the clock should do that.
Anyway i put a new dice in pad and back again
he was going to fault it again but a the last minute decided to ride it up the road then he park it up and past it.
Had similar issues the year after but now after retorting now it mot time a again .
I’m not look forward to it ? .
it got a proportioning valve on it as will.
I would like to hear of anyone with similar experience.
The linked brakes are designed not to put too much braking force on the rear. My local tester uses common sense and doesn’t really rely on a rolling road type machine.
If you are near Leicester I can recommend my local guy.
Thanks for that but in north wales.
I will have to go to the garage i hed it test before
and see if he remember me.
And is welling to do a road test instead of a rolling road.
Thanks a lot diolch yn fawr
I just been to a test a station and he said he
well give it a fair chance.
he’ll roed test it if it dry ? .
He said he’d collect the data and make a decision.
So has any know how much the needle should go before it go down and how much it should go down on the rear wheel.
and all so the front wheel.
And may be long the needle should stay high.
Thanks Diolch.
Hi Owen.
I had exactly the same experience with my Targa. That was some 30-odd years ago!
The MoT tester just couldn’t get the braking power up to the required limit on the machine. Luckily, I was hanging around so we had a chat about it during which I explained about the linked brakes and how the bike stopped really well when riding. He took it for a quick spin up and down the road and passed it.
There was nothing wrong with my proportioning valve but as I understand it, this set up biases to the front brake when you increase pressure at the pedal so I think that explains why the needle of the rolling road machine drops during the brake test.

PS I live in Eryri, currently have a V85TT
Thanks for that, can i show your comments to
Who ever MOT the Targa.
It would help explain it.
Thanks again diolch eto
This is from the Cali 1100i workshop manual but the proportional valve is similar on the whole range. May help to prove your case. For what its worth my tester in Kent has never questions it as he understands this.
Thanks Diolch
