Power loss - LM

I don’t think the le mans model was made until 2002. Here from the v11 forum is a list of variants:

There is a colour wiring diagram for a 2004 model they are so similar that there will only be minor differences.

I don’t have any experience of the power commanders but if I was having running problems it would be one of the first things that I would disconnect in a process of elimination.

While you have your copperslip to hand remove the rear shock lower bolt (with the weight off the rear wheel) and lube it up. There have been reports of the casting on the lower shock mounting hole cracking on the standard sachs unit. The upper bolt is a bit harder to get at as you have to remove the airbox.HaydnR2013-06-13 00:30:19

The Le Mans I have was made in 2001 and reg in 2002 bud

WG order the relays Dan sends them real quick he really is a top bloke I have spoken to him on the phone the Post Office is next door to him I got my relays within a day or two.

Just a thought tho’ you got the bike from a decent dealer …have you actually CALLED them?

When I got MY V11 Le mans It was really chucking fuel out on the start up and for 5-10 mins you could SMELL unburned fuel.

Rang Mark at Twiggers they took it in, popped it on the elektrikery mahine…sorted… no charge… part of the service form them.guzzibear2013-06-13 12:00:53

I’ve emailed with no response yet but it would be a 500 mile round trip to get there

I’ll continue to tinker… can do most work myself but not the digital diagnostic stuff.

See where the nearest diagnostic is bud I am not brill with that either luckily Twiggers are 9 miles away…

I would suggest it is better to telephone them and speak to someone mate…e- mails can easily get overlooked during busy periods…

I know - I’ll call them tomorrow. Had a motorway run today about 40 miles. The hesitation happens around 4000rpm and occurred twice on the way out and once on the way back. It also behaved badly at lights/junctions etc - stalling a couple of times. Is there a way of checking the state of the battery as I have my suspicions… only just turns over to start.

Low battery will do this try running it wil all the lights ON and Off is there is a difference with all lights on could be battery could be the regulator had one go on mine they use the ducati set up well worth running extra earth from reg…they die with bad earth…it is up in the front of the frame right where ALL the crud from the front wheel will hit it, lil oblong thingy with some finning on it, it is easy to get an alternative part easy to replace as well …worth checking the eartht o the casing and giving it a clean… it MAY help mate… mine failed and basically burned the main fuse so I replaced the reg. added an erff and replaced the fuse holder complete…all good since then…

It’s a good place to start - is the reg/rec the same as the VFR800? Plenty of those around.

…and that’s why Guzzi owners are so cool. Thanks!! Great link.

As afr as I am aware the reg is the same as Ducati in factthe one that came OFF the bike is marked Ducati and was the OEM one I got a spare from Pete @ reboot, so him/Gutsibits/NBS may have one. Pete had a choice of 2 different types I took the one with the same connections AND ran a separate earth wire.

For anything v11 related have a look on http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/ You will learn anything you need to know about the model. Do a search there on the regulator/rectifrier and you will find much info. The resident electronics expert is ‘Kiwi Roy’

I’m pretty sure the recommended replacement is from here:
http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/cgi-bin/ss000001.pl?page=search&SS=moto+guzzi&ACTION=Search&PR=-1&TB=A

as the ducati reg/rec is old tech now but worth reading up on it.

Well, I had planned to have a go at this over the next couple of days but we’re off to Guzziland on Wednesday so it’ll be a little job for me when I get back, multimeter in hand.
Strangely I did the same journey again today and it behaved perfectly. Guzzis eh? Tch!

If it behaved ok and the weather was different try the copper grease on the sensor bud

Just a quick update: copper slip on the temp sensor made no difference, so the next step is the inlet rubbers.

Do I have to remove the airbox to do this?

Wot he said - Dan is most definitely your Man!

Mine took 6 days to get here - though the US Postal Service tracking system believes the package is still in Chicago and the Royal Mail have never heard of ittris2013-07-29 07:18:19
