Single carb manifold

im thinking the 886 harley car is most logical for a single carb conversion and you get the nice push pull throttle?

You’d think they would be common as muck but there are very few about. I’m happy to give anything a go, just to see what happens!

I was only quoting the web page! Doesn’t mean he’s right

These are currently on Ebay

Yes, ta. I’m watching them. I bid on the one, but the bloke withdrew it at £60. I want to stick with rubber mounting to save cost so the SU is no good.Is there any difference between a carb that has come off a two stroke?I’ve seen a Dellorto that might do.

Would this be any good, do you reckon?

Or this?

Out of curiosity, why are you going down this route?

Because I have an insatiable need to fiddle! And I like the idea of less hassle and possible better economy.I’d just like to see what happens, basically.

My experience is that if you can get it right, you get much improved economy for little loss in performance.Take the new V7 series, single TB, improved performance and economy.

v7’s have a single throttle body with twin injectors near the inlet ports , i have a webber alpha kit from my moggie days that i would love to graft on to the t5

I thought that was what I said.

it has been succesfully done on a big block in the past.

With modern Carbon fibre All it would take would be someone to make a mold as that would work with most of the 850-950 range and possibly the 1100’s

I was researching the Virago and a Guy in the USA has made a single carb conversion kit complete with choice of carb.

It makes the Virago “look” more Harleyesque BUT it has a practical value as new Mikuni CV carbe are horrendous price and a replacement Single carb and manifolds is actually

Cheaper
Better fuel economy
easier to tune
gives better power as well

I guess this reasoning should work for Guzzi? Others may know better

sorry Brian! , was just trying to add that the injectors are as close to the inlet as possible. That gets over any possible issues with the offset cylinders causing fueling problems or spacing issues

Emailed Virago chap and he reckons any 40mm carb will do. Just missed a Sporty carb, but they aint cheap!

I think you are both right because you have to swing the jar around your head quite fast to get the result you want.At 30 mph I suspect you would get wet.I am basing this on drinking half pints out of pint pots on the Norland in heavy water in '82 (cor that sounds so warry, it was post conflict).

Being on a ship in heavy water is not the same effect as centrifugal (or centrepetal if you want to be pedantic) force.

This is all very entertaining and interesting chaps, But :-Does anyone have a 40mm carb for sale? (don’t want to spend a fortune in case it doesn’t work) Something that would use Guzzi twistgrip and cabling would be a bonus. What do I do if I cant fit my breather box (see above) Can I extend breathers elsewhere?

What size are the original carbs, just that I think a 40mm will be too big. You lose all that bottom end power which is what a single carb is best for.More important what is the ID of the carb fitting on the manifold. Pointless going larger than that. You could site the breather box anywhere provided the connections are the same.

Is also why a lot of downdraft type car carbs (e.g. Solex) had a 2-stage throttle, by 2 venturis and butterflies, offering economy potter mode and scalded cat mode
