Upgrade headlight

I have a California EV W reg(2000) and would like some advice on upgrading the headlamp to produce a more powerful beam

if you search the site you should easily find references to adding mini relays, using a brighter bulb.

of course, you could do what I did and fit a couple of Bates lamps with a hi-fi case for your mini relays.

I am aware of the legal ramifications but I fitted an HID bulb and ballast to my Cali III. It gives a superb headlight with the correct beam pattern and only uses about 3A.

Please can you give more detail’s on the hid setup

A 7 inch sealed beam has been recommended by others on hereSealed beam headlamp

I got my conversion as a single unit motorcycle kit from HID World.

best upgrade i found was to fit an suzuki bandit 600 / 1200 round chrome headlamplooks far better than the oem 7" unit and is like a search light even with standard bulb

Thus proving the vagaries of reflector & lens design.

Use a Ring version with a 100/85 H4 halogen bulb.Lights up the entire road.

from the glowing alternator smoldering from delivering 100w!?!

Used either 100/85 or twin 60/55 with no problems since 1984.

This is the way forward chaps.

Ditto, well the Sprint fairing has 2 x H4, AND I have to add in side lights (4 x 5W) and ignition (about 50W), I make it 180W. But still needs decent revs to keep the alternator working, about 4k -ish IIRC, can’t piddle about at low rpm for too long if you want to make sure battery is topped up as well.

best bet if adding all the power sapping extras is to buy either the euro electics conversion alternator where the standard is 20 amp at max load the conversion is capable of 20 amps @ 2000 revs and up to 32 Amps @ full revs I fitted one on the spada and never had a flat battery again it also gets rid of the old fashioned alternator brush gear as well

On main beam, with the fog lamps on my bmw 1150gs, has six 50 watt bulbs on the go. Now that IS a charging system.

Is this suitable for the Cali 1100i?

not sure best check with them or electrex world they each make a high output version
