V50 Piston Ring installation

I am in the process of restoring a V50 MK3 which has stood for many years. When I stripped the engine down the piston rings fell apart so new ones will needed. On Gutsibits they say "Stepped ring is fitted between the other two rings, with the step facing the bottom of the piston " I am not sure what “facing” means here. My workshop manual doesn’t mention the step at all.

So my question is this, is the middle stepped ring installed with the wider part (bigger diameter) at the top or bottom of the piston.

I would take that as the fatter part at the top and the reduced section down, but if in doubt, give Gutsibits a call. They are always very helpful.

I have previously re-ringed my veefer but don’t recollect now, I’d presume as per my diag. But as Don says, best check back with Gutsibits if in doubt. A
