V65 Lario tyres: tubed or tubeless?

I can’t find any info on whether my V65 Lario runs tubeless tyres or needs tubes…anyone hazard an informed opinion?

I am looking at getting a Metzler 120/90 R16TL 63H if that’s any help…

Cheers

It depends on the shape of the rim. Have a look at the document in the attached link. I think the bit you want is towards the end.

As far as I know the rims on the Lario were all the WM type, designed for tubed tyres. Rims for use with tubeless tyres are MT type. People fit the later tyres on early rims and get away with it but Dave Richardson doesn’t recommend it and that’s good enough for me.

Hi,
It’s page 269.
Don’t fit tubeless tyres to a WM rim, or the other way round with a MT rim.
Not worth it.

Most tyres you buy now are actualy designated as tubeless, I personally still fit tubes.

Yes. My Avon Roadriders are tubeless but the rims are WM (tubed). So they are fitted with tubes.

Thanks Guys, all good info.
Reality is tyres in this size are bloody rare so it will be what I can get, probably tubeless. I will add a tube to be sure.
I run tubeless tyres with tubes on my other old bikes with no problems; except changing them yourself is flipping hard work due to the thick sidewalls

Still the rims need to be specified as tubeless too. Otherwise yes need to add an inner tube.

I once asked my local bike shop if he would put tubeless onto my Tonti cast wheels AS tubeless fitments, he said no way the rims have to be tubeless compatible, and these are not.

I went to the local National Bike Tyres. The guy did some classic racing and goes to the local bike shows. Usually there with the Michelin rep. He stocks correct size Avon. I’ve used these last year for over 5000m with no problem.

Thanks, yeah the Lario is an odd 16" size unlike V35/50 - National Tyres offer tubeless only - Metzler and Pirelli City demon so no difference to others.

So the whole reason I asked is cos I thought I’d read somewhere the 4V smallblocks took a tubeless tyre but the manuals dont clarify this…

OK thanks, can you remember where you read that? Can you tell by looking with the tyre on?

If anyone is good at german, the user manual can be found here
http://www.guzzitek.org/d/mu_d/V35I2_V50M2_V65L_Util(D).pdf
Page 9 refers to tyres .
Edit. Not sure where I got it from, but the Lario manual I have says the rims are MT H2-2,15 x 16
From what’s been said above MT rims are suitable for tubeless.
PM me with an email address and I can send you the manual.

Hi,
Trouble with working with old bikes all my stuff has WM rims. Didn’t realise the Monza II, Imola II and the Lario had MT rims.

Don-Spada is quite right, it does say that in the book, looking at a bare wheel will be the best way to make sure.

Great, thanks for the offer. I must have a copy somewhere but have missed the significance of the ‘MT’ etc
Cheers

As mentioned here.

Managed to find my copy of the Lario/Monza 2/Imola 2 workshop manual. It states wheels are MT H2 2.15 and 2.50 by 16.

I’ll order the tyre and see what the fitter makes of it
