Thanks Mike, that looks just the ticket. Looking forward to getting this bike running how it should…
Interesting thread gents…but reading it does make me wonder where the progress is…btw Gav…my boss had a bout of gout…and took some sort of supplement…which cleared it quickly…I’ll find out what it was…
Not progress, just namby-pamby emissions regs overruling common sense.
I am passed the point of supplements - now on prescription of Allopurinol - the drug of choice for gouties! I can drink beer again too. Don’t bother with monterey cherry juice - all it does is lighten your wallet and tastes dire.
Referring to this thread had a good chat with DS of Finebau Forge this a.m. Dave sells the compensators to modify the crap lean map supplied with the MUI ecu in my 2013 V7 Stone. Having suffered a severe bout of dangerous and unpredictable bogging down in the sub 4k rpm range in Sept last year I disconnected the sensors and FF compers. Ran briefly to and fro a few miles with no sensors until this spring when I reconnected the sensors. No bogging down, but IMHO reverted to the excessively lean injection set up causing the “kangaroo” at low revs, and associated popping and farting of a frankly ridiculous map, which I had bought the FF Compensators for originally. Refitted the FF compers, and all is well with the world again. The motorcycle is more tractable and smooth. Following on the discussion with Dave I am going to enriched a tad more as I still get the occasional fart - but as this is generally in the closed throttle position I would expect it to be petrol less given the miserly factory injection set up. This is achieved by trim pot and / or DIP switch selection.
No real change to mpg that I can gauge but not too bothered by that unless it’s grossly out.
So - my message is - bad problem seems to be gone now and don’t know why. Guzzi Diag shed little light - no real faults found on sensors or heaters. Reset those present (due to sensor disconnection) but didn’t hit re-learn - that will be the next option if I can be bothered not hefting the sensors into the ocean and blank the bungs for eternity. Don’t expect Guzzi to assist in this issue btw. My dealings regarding this dangerous occurrence from my dealer (who I won’t name for obvious reasons*) was abysmal in my view and so I won’t be using them for any future bike servicing or buying of machines. It’s out of warranty so I’ll do it all myself anyway.
*They are the only MG advertised approved dealer in Scotland and are 175 miles from me anyway - oh drat - what a give away.
“no real faults found on sensors or heaters”
Of course not, it’s simply been set up to run very lean so it produces the right numbers re CO2 emissions, no mystery!
Tractability etc. doesn’t come into it. Or rather, isn’t allowed to interfere…
I thought I would check in with some news after the bike got through its MOT today with no issues whatsoever. I deliberately left the lambda sensors unconnected, which is the way I have been running it for over 2,000 miles now, to see if it would get picked up and it didn’t, so the permanent solution is ditch the emissions equipment guys!
FIne. I have reconnected and found no issues after a lovely bimble around the north of Scotland with other Guzzis. Still a bit lean - but haven’t tweaked it richer yet as I was going to do in previous post. Will eventually do so. If the issue returns then its Plan B - disconnect for a while once more. Its not empirical but works.
