I’ve no complaints about the panniers and put my hand up to obviously not mounting them correctly in the first place. Equally obviously I’m unlikely to repeat this particular error as I’m not a complete idiot.
As to fussing about with the locks I’m not that bothered. For various reasons I always have a bunch of keys in my pocket and adding one more to them won’t upset me at all. Not as if I’m using the panniers on a daily basis. Once a month if that.
I had a “universal key” for luggage, seat and fuel tank made by a locksmith. Worth asking.
Everybody who ever owned a set of Krauser panniers had one of those years ago!
Great meeting today with Staffies, Notts&Derby branches and friends. 20+ people and a great range of Guzzis from the 1970s to the latest. Hats off to all that turned out.
Went for a damp ride yesterday on a familiar boring road. On the upside, good food and conversation. Today, tidied out the bike shelter a bit. More to do!
Continuing the discussion from What did you do with your Moto Guzzi today? 2024:
First ride today after fitting a new clutch in a rescued Cali Jackel. It’s been off the road since 2017: though I put a Mot on it last September, which is when I found the clutch was slipping. All good today though and will be clocking up the miles this year.
Been out for an hour (its very windy and drizzling) but it look promising that the collective of bigger screen/handguards/rabbit ears has stopped my bad helmet buffeting. Didnt go above 80 but considering the weather it was a big improvement
Fitted some aux lamps to my V100. Fancied the additional lighting but didn’t fancy the price of the official Guzzi foglights (£450 + £80 odd for fitting kit).
Did a bit of research, worked out that you can use the Guzzi connection to control a set of aftermarket lights.
So I installed a set of Cree 3 Auxillary lamps from a company called Bikevis. They were £100, rest of bits needed (wires, connectors, a relay and a couple of brackets to mount on crashbars that were already fitted) were another £25 or so.
They work well and look OK and are a lot brighter than the Guzzi offering. Because I used the Guzzi connector, the handlebar switch works and the dash captions illuminate correctly.
Quite pleased with them.
What on earth are Rabbit ears?
I believe they are spoilers that mount behind the main screen low down near the steering head. I think that they are supposed to affect the air flow behind the screen - reducing noise and turbulence - but I stand to be corrected.
Small pieces that sit in the curves at the front of the tank that is sculpured to take the fork legs
where did you get these from, i am planning on getting some and those look good
Ears are from “de byl technologies” in the USA, theres a french company make some, but i think these look nicer and first impression are that they work. I just need a longer ride to confirm.
I was too afraid to ask!
yeah i don’t like the french ones, prefer these 3d printed style types
Not today, but Wednesday. Fitted some spoked wheels from a V7 III Special to my V7 II Stone.

Nice job. Are they a straight fit?
Yes, straight fit. The most difficult thing was safely supporting the bike in the air whilst doing the swap . I even managed to fit the rear wheel first attempt without dropping any cush rubbers
Met some French ‘motards’ in the village this very wet morning, as I was going to the supermarche. They had stopped for lunch (after the fashion of all French men and women) on their way to Parthenay. One was on a 1987 Mille GT, which was what had caught my eye of course. Another on an oldish Bonneville (kick start) and the third had a sidecar rig based on I think it was a Triumph Daytona. No photos I’m afraid.
