1000 SP Seat

Looking for an early 1000 SP seat in good condition. This is the lower of the two seats, as fitted to early (78-80 I think) bikes.
Willing to buy or swap for my later, wider, taller (G5 style) seat. My seat is in excellent condition, solid base, very clean and original-looking.
Cheers

I had a low seat on my 1974 850T and could not find a replacement in the late 80’s. I used an 850T3 on but the foam was thicker and apart from me sitting too high it looked wrong. I later swapped it for a 750S seat when I altered the appearance of the bike a lot!

You could try taking an inch or so off the bottom of the foam, so as to keep the top profile the same. There is a good seat man around here who does car trimming that I get to make new covers, but your original cover would be easy to adapt.

Hi Chris,
Thanks, yes usual hens teeth but if you don’t ask…
I will get mine altered by a pro like you say if I can’t find a good swap. I like your idea of taking a chunk off the bottom, even I could do that but to make it narrower too could be tricky for this bodger!
Cheers
Dave

I think the professionals cut the foam with a hot wire gadget (or is that polystyrene?) I have used a craft knife before to do it, the type with snap off blades. If you extend it so that 5 or 6 of the blades are sticking out you have a long very sharp knife. It may take a few cuts but you will get there, and then it all gets covered up anyway. Best to let the professionals do it if you want a smart job though!
