Hi ,not had time to read up on this bike yet but why have i got 2 batteries on my 1996 1100 sport .R they 2 6voltsmany thanks johnno
It’s because Yuasa were doing a ‘buy one, get one free’ offer at the time. Here’s a possible answer from Guzziology:Why (and why not) two batteries for the Sport 1100?I can’t say for sure what the reason is but there are some clues. First off, the Daytona battery stands 6 1/4" tall and produces 2O7 cold cranking amps. It seems Guzzi could have used the maintenance free YTX14-BS which saves 1/2" in height, weighs 1 1/2 pounds less, and puts out a comparable 200cold cranking amps. What Guzzi gained by using two YTX9-BS batteries (besides over two pounds compared to the Daytona) is a potential passenger seat height reduction of just over two inches. Better yet, the smaller batteries put out a total of 24O cold cranking amps. Faced with the need to replace them, however, I would opt for the PS 545 from the Centauros because it does the job and costs far less than the two smaller batteries. There is only one correct way to connect the two batteries and luckily it’s easy to remember: all the positives hook to each other and all the negatives hook to themselves as well. Take special note of the routing of the larger, longer positive cable from the batteries to the stafier. This cable can beworn through from rubbing against the sharp corner of the steel battery tray.

thats good information ,thanks guzzijack. Had a quick look 2day and it appears there 12volts but low amps 9 each connected i believe in what you call series.
Guzzijack,
if you connect red to red and black to black, you only have 6 volts, surely that can’t be right,
Phil.
I wonder if the battery fitted to the later V11 Le mans would do the job it certainly will start it ok , and it is pretty small as it sits on it’s side, If you want to check Johnno pop over one time. I try to make the club meets BUT the last two fell when I had to cover a trunk run got home far too late.
The info is a direct quote from Guzziology - but as they are 12v batteries connected in parallel I believe you still end up with 12v but double the amp hours?
Sorted, reread johnno’s question “R they 2 6volts” threw me.
the only bit i got right was 2 batteries Thanks guzzijack and phil now know there connected parallel.Ken thats a good idea 2c if your battery would fit in the space i have (all is good at the moment with the batteries,)but nice to know i got you for some help if needed
It’s the same battery mentioned in the Guzziology quote above:"Faced with the need to replace them, however, I would opt for the PS 545
from the Centauros because it does the job and costs far less than the
two smaller batteries."Odyssey and other manufacturers will have the correct amp/hour in the same sized single battery package.
