1200 sport, Can someone help?

Hi, Was wandering if anyone can part with some wisdom please.

my bike has been well looked after and has had alot of work done the last couple months in preparation of a big trip.

I went to go start it this morning after a weekend trip away and it wont start…

The bike clicks on ignition and the fuel pump relay seems to be making a loud noise ive checked the connection they look to be fine, I also noticed on the dash the triangle warning light appeared and something i havent seen before was a ecu warning on the odometer section. the relay does some to carry on clicking pretty loudly once the ignition switch is pressed sometime going for a few seconds. Ive gone into the diagnostics. 36 on the ecu which is fuel pump related?

I cant seem to figure out why its doing this, its had a new battery. Ive checked all the fuses. It was running just fine before?

any insights.

Thank you Tom.

I would start off by putting a voltmeter on it and measuring the volts when it is trying to start. 11.6v and above while cranking should be good.

10v and below - it is very unlikely to go

If the voltage when cranking is low check, clean and vaseline the earth and main power cables at the battery and also at the other end (earth to the frame and +ive to the fuse box and starter)

Also pull the 30amp fuses and give them and the holders a clean. Maybe replace them…they’ve been in there a while now.

When you turn on can you hear the fuel pump pressurising?

Another thought, did you clear the error on guzzidiag and the Ecu dash errors.

If so has it re appeared?

id love to post a video of it, but when the ignition is hit the fuel pump relay is whats making so much noise. the fuel pump does sound to be pressurizing as normal.

Don’t forget that most of the relays are in the same place.

Check the relay that is square, it has a diode in it. The diode is to let the Ecu know (hence triangle of doom) . You could have water and corrosion in it. You can substitute a standard 5 pin relay to prove the issue (but wouldn’t leave it in)

A new battery is not guaranteed to be fully charged up, off the shelf. Usually, they only have a “holding charge”, about half the charge capacity.

Did you give it a full charge, with something like a CTEK, before installation & use?

I would pull the relay out of the socket, and then replace it firmly to make sure it’s making contact properly.

Did you get to the bottom of this Tom?
