My 1200 Guzzi Sort must be the fastest one in history. It can do 100mph with the clutch dis-engaged! Seriously I suspect the hall sensor for the Speedo is goosed (maybe dampness as it has started after winter). Does anyone know if there is a generic part shared with other Italian bikes that you can purchase, as Guzzi 1200 ones are scarce.
Generally the price for Aprilia, Ducati is the same at around £149 ish, it would be worth looking at fitting a griso as it is fitted to the rear wheel and about £69 you would need to make an extension cable and adjust your speedo value.
The cables never last long on the front sadly.
Hi Brian, I’ve resolved this and it brings up interesting questions. So the Speedo was going haywire and reading up to full scale 150mph. Taking a couple of days of work to work on a couple of bike I looked at the 1200 this morning.
Witness marks were found on the sensor and on the Cap-head screws holding the discs to the front hub. I have not touched this. The last people to touch the front wheel were Shorrocks motorcycle in Preston who (according to them) were Moto Guzzi agents in the past. They replaced a fork seal and a front tyre.
The solution was to place a washer between the fork leg and the sensor housing. A test ride showed stable movement of the needle in the speedo.
Maybe others have “bad” cables that may not be faulty.
