Looking for some advice on what option I have for a set of period panniers for my 850 Eldorado. I have seen that Craven do a set of rails and rear rack combined, but I find the rear rack slightly er …. ugly { sorry to other owners !} . Wixoms would be great but they seem to be like hen’s teeth, and I believe I’ve seen other members bike with none period Hepco and Becker plastic/abs panniers on { Henry Coles invite to the club on the Motorbike show } , which i might consider if no other options are present .Can anyone offer any advice on viable options please .
My bike has some GRP panniers which came with it. From a bit of digging around I found that they were universal aftermarket items which a place in Birmingham made. I did speak to the bloke there but he said they don’t have the patterns any more. I did see an identical set on an air-head BMW, so if you like the look of them you may be lucky and spot a set somewhere. Brackets would need to made up. Mine are obviously home-made, and use a Craven rack for the top mounts, but wouldn’t have to.
A couple of examples of what the police bikes used. The US version (B&W photo) are not dissimilar to mine, and are not Wixoms. The Italian version (green bike) uses the steel panniers which were also used on a lot of Tonti bikes. Might be easier to find a set of those.
Thank you for that information Mr Rambler . Useful in that I didn’t realise the green Italian bike has steel type panniers rather than GRP . I will keep searching but thank you . ![]()
Gutsibits seem to have a pair, although you’d need to modify the brackets to suit your bike.

Moto Guzzi T5 Police Original Side Pannier Luggage Set & Keys and Frame | eBay UK
Hi Mike, looks like an option. Where are you located and what sort of price please .
Regards Bryan
Hi Bryan thanks for getting back to me.
Make me a reasonable offer seen them for silly money but I’m not using them and think they would suit an older bike .
I’m in the North East Darlington, can post or will be travelling about in the near future depending where you are .
Cheers Mike
Hi Mike, thanks for responding. It would be good to have a few images and dimensions if possible, and some idea of condition, locks, keys etc .I assume they are now off the T3 , so would be good to see the fixing side to make a judgement for possible fitment to my Eldorado. I am in North Leicestershire so i guess we are looking at cost plus postage . I have no idea of value really , so it would be good if you could give me a price of what they are worth to you . Cheers Bryan
Bryan , The panniers are in the garage will have a few more pictures and dimensions tomorrow for you . Definitely not original to T3 as I didn’t like how they sat on bike when I got it out some craven panniers on .
I would think BMW panniers might be a good option - OEM or Hepco - Probably still a lot around. Quite slabby from memory. Would have to make up or adapt brackets and a lot were bolt on rather than detatchable back then

Classic BMW / Krauser Panniers, with Krauser mounting frames. | eBay UK
This sort of thing ?
Or Krauser
You’ve probably already considered and rejected this, but how about soft throw-overs? Some - especially the Harley-esque versions - are period-looking and would suit your bike. No frame to fool about with, and dead easy to remove so you don’t need to lug them around when you’re not using them. I had a set from Oxford on my T3 for years. Good luck, Ian.
I’ve not seen these in the flesh but considered them for my V7 at one point.
Craven Equipment do Vintage style hard panniers but not sure about their range of fitting kits. My friend has sw motech legend bags on his v7 and they look good.
I decided of i did go hard luggage it would be hepco n becker junior. Had a set on a rental once and they were great to use, but also very neutral, not detracting from the look of the bike.
Thanks for all the replies chaps. Ok so I’ve ruled out the leather options for now, as i really think once fitted other than maintenance the panniers would remain fitted, plus the weather protection won’t be as good as hard panniers.
I also own an old Airhead BMW R100CS which has a brand spanking new set of Krauser {now hepco and becker} panniers that if fitted ,and after offering them up to the Eldorado, I decided that they just do not look correct,or period.
I looked at the Junior range from Hepco and Becker, but on reflection I do not think these are correct either, though I might take the plunge on my 1000S for those . SW Motec are similarly not period enough for the Eldorado .
So I have to thank you all for your input and especially Mike from his T3 post as he has kindly posted those pannier for me to try, and I also have a set coming from FB Market place which look like they may be an option too . When I get some fitted I will update this thread. Many thanks for now .Bryan
I posted almost exactly this question on a loop frame fb page a couple of weeks ago. I too have a couple of sets of panniers (including BMW) that I’d like to fit to my loop. But the frames/fittings are the sticking point. I got some interesting suggestions and pictures. DM me if you think it would be of any use and I’ll try to send you a link to the post.
