1994 Cali 3, speddo cable question

I noticed that the speedo was a bit jumpy today, but only from zero to about 10 mph.

Thought I’d have a look at what’s happening, with the thought of lubing the cable. ( if it’s not frayed/damaged :face_with_raised_eyebrow:)

Removed the screen, looked at the dash assembly drawing online.

I can see that there is a spigot /boss the protrudes from the main dashboard body into the chrome speedo housing. The drawing doesn’t show a bolt passing through this spigot for a bolt to secure the speedo. I don’t see how the speedo and its decorative chrome housing is removed.
I don’t want to goin heavy handed, if I’m missing something obvious.

I think you need to remove the handlebar clamp and then the whole console will be loose to work on.

You dont need to do this.
Each binnacle has two allan screws (7) at the base. Remove these and the binnacle should slide off. Its tight and the speedo cable makes it trickier.

Remove the two small phillips screws at top of rear cover (15) and remove cover.

You should now see the bolts that hold the speedo and tacho. The spigots toward the top and front just locate into a couple of holes to align the binnacle.

Ps greasing the cable can make it worse. Clean and lightly oil.

To be clear, you have to remove the bolt before sliding the binnacle off. I didn’t explain this very well above.
This is what the speedo binnacle looks like when it’s off.
