Hi All,
I just thought I’d advise on progress.
Yesterday I set about the V7ii to try and rectify the cause of the speed wobble:-
1, Damping of the Hagon Nitro shocks upped by one notch, as advised by Hagon. Preload not altered as preset by Hagon to Sharon’s weight.
2, Avon Roadrider front tyre pressure reset from 2.2 bar (Avon spec) to 2.5bar as per Guzzi manual.
3, Remove H&B Top Box
Sharon Road tested on a good stretch of dual carriageway, to simulate Continental cruise speed. At just over 70mph the weave kicked in. Following on from Mike’s Dunlop video she laid prone on the tank - nothing altered and the weave continued. Bike slowly reduced in speed and safely returned.
A larger weighted rider was recruited for a second test. No difference although he did report that relaxing, even removing his hands from the bars and sitting back cured the weave. In fact, with both hands removed he reported that the bike tracked perfectly true with no handlebar movement at all.
4.Front tyre pressure upped to 2.7bar.
Tested again with heavier rider. No better.
I am now totally baffled as to how such a low mileage bike can handle as poorly as this.
Any thoughts / suggestions most warmly welcomed.
I suppose, in my own mind, the next stage would be to do the following:-
1, Remove the forks and change the oil. I understand that 7.5 is the correct weight of oil for these?
2, Remove the Avon Roadrider tyres, and revert back to Pirelli Road Demons. (I checked the Bridgestone website and it could not recommend any suitable tyres for the V7ii.?).
3, Go out a replace it with a V9 Bobber. This is looking like the more expensive option though.
Kind regards,
Stuart.
Have you been running front and back tyres at the same pressure ?
Have the wheels been balanced ?
Hi Jef,
The Tyres had only just been changed when we got the bike.
Sharon has only managed about 200 miles on it since she got it.
We’ve been running. 2.5 bar front and rear.
Kind regards,
Stuart.
Hi All,
I’ve just been going over the Guzzi again and this time I carried out a full geometry check.
The front wheel was running out of line and with the handlebars straight was looking to the nearside. The forks had twisted in the yokes…
I slackened all the fork pinch bolts, axle and fork brace and reset everything. Sharon will give it a test run tomorrow.
Fingers crossed that this cures it.
Kind regards,
Stuart
Just wondering how the test run went ?
Hi Jef,
I went very well thanks. Fault not longer present.
Kind regards,
Stuart.
.
That is good news. Sounds as if the out of true front forks was the problem. Well done in sorting it.
I hope you both have some happy riding.
Thanks Jef & Bill.
