Airone 250cc gear change issues and help

I have purchased a supposedly restored airone 250cc from 1949 but I have a few issues and wonder if anyone can help.

The previous owner had assembled the clutch actuation wrong so the clutch arm adjuster wore down rubbing on an incorrect clutch bearing. I have fitted a new bearing and adjuster but still cannot change gear without the gears grinding and the visual indicator returning to slightly different places each time. Strange as the clutch seems to work fine for pulling away and disengages fully at a stop.

Is there an adjustment procedure for the gears? Can the gearbox be assembled incorrectly, although if you get it into gear it sounds fine.

Is there anyone relatively local to Horsham West Sussex that is able to help or maybe more national that I could go to… Or maybe a recommended garage that understands these awsome machines?

It sounds like there may be wear issue with the gear selector mechanism (the ‘round’ device that the gear change lever is connected to). This controls the movement of the gear selctor quadrant within the gearbox. It is relatively easy to take apart and inspect. Do you have copies of the manual (in english) and parts list, both available from ‘this old tractor’ website.
Good luck Phil

I have literally just downloaded both so will have a read…

Sorry, I can’t help on this but can suggest you wil probably reach a wider more knowledgeable audience by asking on the Google Guzzi singles group. Knowledge of the older single models is limited in this forum.

Many thanks for the reply, I will have a look at that forum
