Aluminium Le Mans mk I tanks

I’ve just had a very interesting conversation with a guy that makes very good ally tanks.
The tanks are pressed from a soft mold, not rolled like the ones from the tank shop so are thicker & stronger & can be easily repaired by him if you ding them.
They can be polished easily for the whole of their life on your bike.
You can have a choice of filler cap.
The welds are aerospace standard quality & the tanks is guaranteed not to leak.
He made the tanks for the Foggy Petronas bikes & the standard of work is really, really high.
What I’d like to know is this…How many of you would be prepared to pay for a new tank for your Le Mans this Christmas & how much are you prepared to pay. Bear in mind that you could pay £473 on Ebay for a crap Indian tank or wait 40+ Weeks for John at the tank shop to finish drinking the last tank’s money down the pub to make yours. (Harsh but true!)
The reason why I’m asking is that I’ll have to help him with the set up fee to make the mold to press the tanks. The more people that want a tank the cheaper it should be for us.
So come on who’s in? I’ll be at the V twin rally on the Saturday if you want to chat about it too. Look for the bloke with the VERY loud unfinished Le Mans with a ponytail.

Tempts me to come to the V Twin again this year … but my wallet is so tightly shut I can’t even get my fingernails in.

A lemans with a ponytail…

It’s all the rage dontcha know

I am interested depending on price,I would not pay £473 for an indian made tank though,

I thought stein dinse supplied tanks though!

Methinks that you besmirch a persons character there.
I bought my ally tank from John last year, no waiting list at all. Very pleasant person as far as I could tell.

Top quality tank.

I phoned John at the tank shop on a Monday, got a lovely new tank on the Friday.lemon2014-08-19 08:24:15

And what’s wrong with that?

I apologise if I’ve come over as besmirching someone’s character.
The tanks that are made at the tank shop are rolled on an English wheel so are thin in places. These tanks are actually made thicker than the material that they started off as because they’re shrunk by the molding process not stretched as in English Wheeling.
The cost should be approx £450 if I get half a dozen interested people.

I need a V11 tank…

No worries Grubby, good luck with your venture

Cheers

As far as I’m aware the filler cap can be of whatever variety you want.

John Williams does the Monza or racing style.

FWIW
I’ve just rung him up today and bought an aluminium rear mudguard inner - off the shelf, no wait.

Cheers
