Hello i find the horn on the V7 Weak , does anyone have a upgrade they can recommend?.
I replaced mine with a Denali one, I ordered both the Soundbomb 120dB and the Mini 113dB units and tried both.
I chose the ‘quieter’ version in the end because-
- It was smaller and easier to locate space wise (I fitted it where the original was mounted but bent the supplied bracket away from the exhaust a little to ensure there was no potential for heat damage).
- While both seemed more than loud enough, I preferred the deeper tone of the Mini, the other sounded more like a strangled chicken/comedy horn to my ears.
- The mini was half the price.!
I considered fitting two mini ones, as my 2010 V7 had two horns as standard, but that’s really not required, one will certainly get you noticed.
I also thought I may use the fused supply to the second (now removed) horn for day running lights/heated grips/SatNav or some other accessory at a later date.
Bought mine through Sportsbikeshop so returning the unwanted item was easy.
For info, the supplied bracket is in fact several… there are four or five ‘slithers’ of metal which combine to make one (a bit like the blades of a feeler gauge), you can remove some if you wish to bend the ‘bracket’ into a more convoluted shape. On mine, and I guess your V7, finding a suitable spot is not complicated by any fairing, so I used all the sections (blades) of the bracket.
You could equally use the existing bracket off the standard horn.
I’ve not used it greatly other than to test it works but it’s definitely a massive improvement over the original. Will see how it bears up to the weather, I’ve pointed the horn downwards a bit to keep water ingress to a minimum.
My original horns had shiny fake chrome embellishments, and while I’d quite like to have retained the ‘bling’ element, the basic black plastic finish looks innocuous enough and should hopefully survive the British weather.
Thank you for the info ,because my biggest worry was that it would be too big and either touch the exhausts or the mudguard when the suspension compresses .
I use the Denali soundbomb mini and it is very loud.
I’ll chip in - Vehicle Wiring Products, Compact Horn 12V, £12.99. Sounds like a truck horn (lorry). Very ‘authorative’ tone especially in a built-up area. Directly replaces original, same fitting and connectors. However the mounting ‘tongue’ broke on mine due to vibration, so then I made the original horn’s one to fit, it’s thicker thus stronger plus has a rubber grommet for the stud on the horn body, not an exact match but can be made to fit.
