Morning gang
New to DIY mechanics - so be gentle with me
I have already carried out oil and filter change and need to do the Valve Adjustment now. Looked at a couple of YT videos and one of them recommends using a liquid gasket on the cylinder head when putting it back on. Is this recommended? I have a 2022 V7 850 Classic.
Regards
Jim
I’ve used Hylomar Blue on low pressure applications, always found it very good, but not sure what’s recommended by ‘hexspurts’.
Their website suggests it’s suitable for various applications including cylinder heads though.
Hi Jim,
With respect is your terminology a bit off. To do the valve adjustment you won’t be removing the head or breaking the head gasket seal. You only need remove the rocker cover and as long as you clean the gasket faces and replace the gasket you’ll be fine. Likely even get away with re-using the old gaskets if they don’t fragment on removal.
It shouldn’t be needed on the rocker covers, assuming the gasket faces are in good condition which i would expect on a 3 year old bike. You should have a couple of new gaskets to hand before starting in case the old ones don’t come off cleanly. I just add a thin smear of grease to most gaskets, it means they can usually be re-used next time you take the cover off.
Thanks Kingorry. I will have a look at that
Hi Cabernet
Yep just confirms about my mechanical knowledge. It will be the rocker covers I am removing. Appreciate the clarification and information
Thanks Don-Spada. Will look at getting a spare gasket to hand. Just case. Cheers
