Aochi screen and cameras.

Hi all. Having used my mobile phone as my sat nav etc mounted on my bars like a lot of people, I noticed on a recent big trip that the phone battery couldn’t keep up with useage and started to drop. I was also concerned about it dropping off the bars and onto the road so I went ahead and have purchased the well advertised on YouTube, Aochi C6 Pro. I have a V7 but love tech so it will be the old and the new. Like the Louvre . My questions is this, does anyone use anything similar and what is the drain on your mobile phone like as obviously it mirrors the phone? I believe it’s low but just checking with any current users of that or a similar system. Cheers.

You could always fit a handlebar mounted USB socket to charge the phone/gps as you go.

loads to choose from - there are also USB adapters that plug into a charger plug if you have a battery charger lead for an optimate or similar.

Thanks Russell. I already have the phone connected to an SP connect charger when riding but both me and a mate on another bike with a similar set up still had less percentage left after the long ride than we were happy with. The iPhone does use a lot of power and with Waze running as well as the intercom it couldn’t keep up. I also want it off the bars as paranoid about it falling off . The new Aochi will be powered from the bike and my phone in my pocket. I was wondering if anyone had experience of this and how the phone handled the battery draw. :+1:

quadlock mounts are very secure

It helps to shut down all the other background apps, turn off wifi too

My iphone running the beeline navigation app will run endlessly if connected to a USB charger

A second thumbs up for quadlock mounts from me also

Russell

Thanks it does help to shutdown the apps you’re right mate. Just also wondering if anyone has one of the screens like I’m going to attach and iPhone in their pocket not charging to see what the drain may be?

+1 for Quadlock and USB adapter. My adapter is permanently clipped onto handlebar and connects to ‘USB socket’ under seat of my 2021 V7 850 Special, it has two USB ports and as a nice extra, a digital Voltmeter. I am currently using an iPhone 11 with maps.me app, which doesn’t need Internet access to work so the 'phone can be in airplane mode. This prevents it transmitting to a cell tower, or trying to, which uses up battery charge faster.

I haven’t got an aftermarket screen but I do have an iPhone and a quad lock mount.
On the iPhone you can investigate what is draining your battery in settings somewhere.
The biggest drain is the screen - especially when riding and using the phone as a sat nav as generally it’s on the brightest setting to compensate for the daylight hitting it.

With that in mind, even with Waze running and being streamed to your screen, I think your phone will last quite a while.

I have the Detecht app (sat-nav, route planner, crash safety alerts and group ride tracking- brilliant app). If I have the screen on, as you say it’s hit and miss whether the charger keeps up. Screen off but voice directions from the app streamed to my Cardo and it charges to 100% quickly - suggesting gps and Bluetooth don’t use much power.

As for the quad lock that others recommend… I suggest those others check the bolt in the centre of the quarter turn mount portion is secure. I know they come with blue thread lock but don’t rely on that. Mine shook loose after 16 months and the phone, mounting plate still attached, landed in my lap - very lucky. Managed to stop without losing it but the anti-vibration mount had been run over by the time I turned back and pulled over to grab it.

Cheers moto. I’ll have a look at what steals the battery charge and when I wire in the new screen I’ll do a road test for iPhone battery life. Waze is ok but not downloadable for offline. Some of them want a subscription which is a bit much so will have a look at the one you use mate.:+1:. Can’t wait to fit it.

Not sure Detecht has downloadable maps either. It has two levels of features- one free and one with a charge but there is often a decent sale. You can still have an emergency number in the free version. But, yeah, take a look - see what you think.

A good map app for downloadable/offline is Maps(dot)me

You can download 10 maps for free (sorted me for the bits of the UK I visit most and a couple of map areas in France) and they are so detailed - great if you like walking too.

I run a Beeline II. Phone on charge under the seat via Oxford USB, powered by piggy pack off the rear brake light switch. Can set off with less then 5% on the phone and the phone will be fully charged in a few hours whilst driving the Beeline II by bluetooth. The Beeline II will easily do 12 hours solid and can charge over night of the same socket with the engine off.

Hi, I use an Aocchi C6 Pro with my Android phone on an old California EV.
The phone’s battery consumption is now much less primarily, I suspect, because the screen is off.
A USB port for charging the phone more than copes with usage now. It didn’t before I started using the Aocchi.
The phone now lives in my pocket or in a small tank bag.
I prefer it in the tank bag for longer trips as then I haven’t got a usb cable connecting me to the bike.

Thanks Cabernet. I like the beeline but went for the larger screen. Probably an age thing.

Thanks Ian. Appreciate the reply. I’m relived it doesn’t drain it too quick. I like a tank bag and will keep it there with a small powerbank someone else suggested. Can’t wait to fit it now.:+1::+1:

QuadLock offers a charger built into the mount itself. I have one on both my bikes and they keep the phone well charged. Very short charge cords are wanted, which can be hard to come by. I think QL now offers a wireless charger.

FWIW I have the quad lock wireless charging mount in the camper. Quality bit of kit (the bike one is weatherproofed)

Cheers. Quadlock does seem to be well made.
