Greetings one and all from a very wet Guildford. I started my riding career on a V65GT and since then moved through three Californias, A BMW R1100R, a Gen1 FJR1300, a Gen 2 FJR1300 and have now bought another V65GT to sit alongside the FJR. The bike came from Wales and i brought it home (via Baldricks) in a tail lift van. It is now in my garage having a bit of tidy up while the rain passes. I’d forgotten how terrible the side stand is but had also forgotten how much easier to move it is than the bikes previously owned. I think that there is some sort of fuellling issue as it will start without the choke and it’s very smelly. More on that later. In the meantime I’ll head off to the small block V twin forum and plague them with questions.

Sounds like it needs a general check over, go through the basics, clean the carbs, check the condition of the cold start plungers, the rubbers can perish and leak, making it run rich. Change the oils, service the brakes, clean the plugs. Check the tappets. It all helps to get to know your way around a new bike. And if that doesn’t resolve things, it sounds like you have the master just up the road.
