I’ve been using a Mk1 for nearly two years - unobtrusive, not disracting, simple navigation instructions, you can create gpx routes on 3rd party websites too and import them which allows you to plan an exact route along minor roads, tracks and trails.
I have been contemplating buying one for a little while, not been able to ride this year so put it on the back burner, but my brother said to download the software onto my phone to check its new enough, all loaded ok
I will pick a moto 11 up next week from J and S accesories, plus the mirror mount , I will install it on the screen mounting though, just in my line of sight
as the bike wont be ridden until spring I can test it in the car, or on my pushbike, to get used to it
will come in useful as next spring i have promised to take a group of wrinklies on a motor cycle tour of my County, and their are lots of hidden places to show them
I have avoided proper sat navs, as they are all to big for my little Breva, and give too much info, I like the simple arrow and turn direction of the beeline unit
next year I am hoping to be back on the continent, and again it will save time, although I carry maps and a route card in case anything electronic goes phut !
The Beeline II is not arrow and turn. I have used the Beeline I with arrow and turn, which was great for reference on routes you have properly planned. The Beeline II I find a little more refined, but still minimalist. Whilst leading a group, I would wish to have properly planned a route, it is easier to follow blindly if you have lost your way, but it may find some interesting trails.
How long should the battery last in standby on the beeline moto II? Mine drains in less than a week when off / in standby. This means it’s bugger all use for camping or occasional spontaneous use, because I have to remember to charge it immediately beforehand!
I took my first unit back to Infinity motorcycles, they exchanged it (to tones of great surprise that anyone should find anything wrong with one). But the replacement unit also won’t hold charge. So although I got the replacement in august, it’s never actually been on the bike.
I chatted to the Beeline support bot messenging service before Christmas and the upshot was to take it back to point of purchase (again).
Before I did that though I thought I’d check on this forum of actual sensible humans (cough), since it seems unlikely I got two faulty units….
What’s the realistic battery life when powered off? Is sun seven days normal? I can’t think of any other electronic device which uses battery this quickly when ‘Off’!
I have notice the Moto II has a shorter battery life in use. Probably as it does a lot more data processing. I would estimate 12 hrs of continuous use, as against 30 hrs (tested) on the Moto I.
I can’t say that I have tried it on standby, but I pulled mine out over Xmas and switched it on, having last used it in October. Charge was still around 60%.
I have the above linked lead wired in under the seat, connect and charge my phone “on the go”, but it could also be used to charge the Moto II whilst pitch tent or even over night without any serious discharge from the battery.
Thanks, that’s useful - so both of my units seem unusual.
I do have (2) USB ports on my V7, which I did use to charge up my first Moto II at my destination (Guzzifest), but without having purchased any of the fancy mounts I shouldn’t really use it while riding. But because the charge had dropped while at Guzzifest, the charge on the way home only lasted from Cromford as far as Marlborough. As I say, the second one has never been on the bike.
I assume there isn’t any additional trick to powering off as distinct from standby? I just hold down the bottom button until it switches off.
I don’t even power off, I just let it fall asleep. I last charged mine before Christmas and have used it for 3x40 minute each way commutes so around 6 hours and it’s still showing over half full.
I’ve been using my Moto II for several months now. It’s brilliant in some regards and flawed in others. At their request I’ve been providing feedback to Beeline to help them improve the Moto II, so they do seem to care when users experience issues, a really promising trait.
Pros: small, light, easy to navigate and change routes mid-ride (whilst parked up) with the app, decent battery life, if charging is needed can be done on the bike via the USB. Most longer distance ‘fun’ routes are pretty darn good IMO.
Cons; first unit failed on me within a month, replaced under warranty. When you finish navigating, make sure it’s switched off as the screen being blank can just mean its asleep and the battery can go flat before your next ride. Routing occasionally is really weird: takes you through city centre as a ‘fun’ option when great twisties add just a few miles or only comes up with a single ‘fast’ option when there are several genuinely fun options that again add just a few miles. I’ve sent Beeline examples of this.
So the Moto II is a work in progress IMO, but pretty darn good, and very well suited to bikes like my Mandello where big screens like a Garmin just take up too much space or sit in the wrong position (out of the eye-line) for my taste. I fitted mine above the TFT using the Moto Mate navigation mount. I posted a photo of this on another topic several months ago if you want to take a look.
A further Pro point,is the ease of moving the Moto or Moto II between bikes.
A further Neg point is the Moto and Moto II use different mounts, so switching between them is troublesome. My Moto is now reduced to MAMIL service.
