Can I ask, as a returning former Guzzi owner, where did the above expressions emanate from please.
Try this: The History of Moto Guzzi | Moto Guzzi Club GB
As I understand it, and I’m no historian, the term “small block” came along (when the V50’s were developed) and “big block” then referred to the engine that went before.
Next up: round barrel vs square barrel (the barrels, of course, all being round. Just the shape of the fins and the rocker head covers changed).
Lino Tonti designed the frame used on so many Guzzi bikes from the early 70’s through to the current day.
The first was the V7 Sport which used the engine from the previous loop frame models such as the V7 Ambasador etc. This frame was used for the T3, the California LeMans etc etc and continued until 2012.
The small block frame was designed for the smaller engine and started with the V50 and continues in basically the same format with the current V7 models etc.
^^^ Wot they said!
