After my several posts I now have the Cali back together
again after its epic clutch and gearbox job.
First, many thanks to all who helped and contributed on the forum. This
was my first real foray into Guzzi innards, and the combination of absent or
poorly translated information, basic Guzzi engineering, and my naivety/dopiness
made it interesting. Such as my expectation
for every seal to have a register against which to seat it (had a beemer
before). No wonder Greg Bender refers to
MG as “this old tractorâ€. I still like
the bike. Without forum help it would
have been much harder and more expensive.
Also, an update on tools. I purchased a clutch centre nut tool from Kev
Drake; whose service and support was excellent.
In fact Kev manufactures any tool to order (“I do the Crank Nut Tool for the primary drive nut on the guzzis
& the front wheel tool. We have 5
cnc machine centres & 5 cnc turning centres & can make anything from
pattern or drawing. People can contact
me by e mail or mobile. 07867 75663707867 756637â€). Highly recommended.
I made the customary holding tools from old clutch
plates. Also, the Laser Flywheel Locking
Tool for a Peugeot was workable, if not fully satisfactory (a bit fiddly).
Pet Roper’s guide to frame crabbing and gearbox shimming was
very useful, bit instead of wooden blocks to hold the frame apart I simply used
a piece of pre-drilled joist tie to separate the frame parts. Provides much better access for incidental jobs
on the engines, fuel filter, etc.
Once again thanks to all who helped me.
