Breva 1100 rear brake pedal electrical switch

My bike needs a new rear brake light switch as the original no longer works. I need to know how to access the old part to remove and replace. In other words, what needs removing to be able to get to the electrical connector? Thanks.

I think the connector might be behind the footrest plate.

The R/H rider large footrest plate hides the switch which is part of the piston valve. Off it comes… if you haven’t already got the Service Manual for the Breva, the majority of all Guzzi model OEM manuals are available on www.thisoldtractor.com (Gregory Benders site) and free to download. Well worth getting this, also use you camera phone to snapshot stuff in the sequence you remove it if unsure.

Sorted it yesterday successfully. But…..a few things to be aware of if anyone considering same job.

  1. Use cable ties to support weight of footrest mounting when bolts are removed to support quite substantial weight.
  2. Remove nuts from lower 2 mountings and leave bolts in footrest support casing to avoid unwanted brake hydraulic mechanism movement.
  3. Support base of lower mounting with scissor jack otherwise the frame will drop slightly and make replacing mounting bolts difficult - ask me how I know this!
  4. Screw new switch in place fully before routing wire to connection point to avoid twisting the cable.
  5. Support footrest weight angled away from the bike to allow big hands into small places to fit new cable ties - a small box or crate is ideal.

My observation is that this part is very expensive for what it is (around £70) and design is poor and being located adjacent to the brake pedal is susceptible to road grit. If having to do this again (hope not) I will consider an alternative universal switch instead.

Message me if you are considering a similar job and need any tips. An easy job but a little time consuming but as I’m retired this wasn’t too important to me.
