Hi, Due to a close encounter with a car a couple of weeks ago I’ve had to replace a few parts on my Breva - the gear lever being one. For all my efforts I just can’t get the new lever to slide on to the splined shaft. Is there a knack to achieving this or is it just a case of resorting to the gentle aid of a hammer? Thanks in advance, Mike.
Wow the Breva gets a splined fitting? A flimsy blob weld on the supposed engine transplant in my V7 Classic.
Just sayin’. Tried heating the end? A little thermal expansion might do the trick.
gently insert a screwdriver into the slot to assist it
you have removed the nut and bolt have you not ?
they engage in a machined slot in the spline
When I replaced mine I cannot remember any problems.
But it was a long time ago in the dim and distant past.
Many thanks for the replies chaps. Got the lever back on this eve using the screwdriver and a little gentle persuasion (mallet). Maybe splines were slightly damaged when the car hit me. Old lever was bent double. Anyway, all feels pretty solid now. Back on the road…cheersÂ
