Hi, I want to remove the injectors on my 2004 Breva for cleaning. Can anyone tell me how to disconnect the fuel pipe, does the black cap just pull off with the fuel pipe attached? I don’t want to force anything and cause damage.
Thanks for any advice, Rob.
Hi, did you managed to get the injectors disconnected?
Hi, no I haven’t. I would still like to.
I know that my mechanic did it very easily, but he let the pressure out of the supply line first
I was not paying to much attention because I was looking at a rather attractive Ducati
and i know if I did it I would break something
why do you not just use some good quality injector cleaner inf the fuel tank ?
then thrash it hard
Hi Rob, there’s a screw that holds the injector to the inlet, undo the screw then the injector will pull out from the cylinder, the injector has an o ring on both ends, once out you can then pull it free from the fuel supply!
When the injector is out, you will need to connect it to 12v so the injector is open when you spray the cleaner through.
There is a guy on YouTube showing how its done on a different injector but same principle.
Hi Connor, yes I have seen the YouTube video which made me think I would give it a go. I removed the injectors from the cylinders, it looks like they are a push fit onto the fuel lines, but they are really tighte so I was worried that there is a proper method of removing them without breaking something.
That’s interesting Raphael, maybe you do need to release the pressure in the fuel line, but I may just try some injector cleaner first as you suggest. Is there any recommened? There are so many on the market.
Cheers
Disconnect the fuel pump 12v feed from underneath the fuel tank then turn on the ignition, press the starter for a couple of seconds, this will release the pressure from the pipes!
just messaged my technician
ps if you remove the injectors, how did you plan to clean them ?
touching them is a no no
you need a special high pressure test rig
some one I worked with, took his out of a diesel van and wire brushed them !!!
I did tell him to take them to a specialist for cleaning and calibration, he thought it was too much money
oddly he didnt worry about spending money on booze and exotic fags, the stupid hippy
ended up having to buy four new injectors, after getting pulled by VOSA
just got a reply
STP Ultra
he also said change the spark plugs first, as injectors dont usually give trouble
Thanks for all the info guys, I had problems with backfiring on overrun after I changed the silencers to Mistrals (the baffle came loose in my std ones). So I went through changing fuel filter, plugs, plug caps, set valve clearances and like Connor, I saw videos on cleaning injectors and thought I’d give it a go. Since then I have balance the throttle bodies and it is a lot better now. I’m now thinking I’ll leave them alone and try a fuel additive just to see if it makes any difference. Thanks
If you are getting popping on the overrun, check your exhaust system for leaks. That is the usual cause of popping & banging on the overrun.
there was a recall on the early machines over a problem with the coupling between the exhaust pipe and the silencer, you had to re drill the mounting bracket perhaps your exhaust pipe is no far enough forward
I didn’t know there was a recall on this, but I’m aware of the short overlap of the pipe and silencer. My brackets have had the holes filed out a bit which moves the silencers forward. I replaced the gaskets when I fitted the replacement silencers, but there isn’t much of an overlap so will see if there is scope to move them further forward.
Thanks.
