Cali 1100 Tank Removal

I am having a bugger of a time trying to replace a burned out rectifier with not enough lead length to make it easy! :exploding_head:
Anyway, I need to remove the tank but am nervous about pissing fuel everywhere if I undo the nuts on the right underside of the tank (not pictured as I can’t attach a file on my phone :rage::triumph:).
Any hand holding greatly appreciated.
:sunglasses:

Sorry, I can’t help with the fuel pipes, I’m a luddite and stick to bikes with carbs!

On my 1100 Cali, the tank is removed by one hex socket bolt at the rear of the tank once the saddle is removed. You then “ease” the tank rearwards off the rubber lugs either side of the frame. Once you have some clearance, you’ll need to detach the two sets of electrical connectors, the overflow breather and the actual fuel line which is the “quick detach” type. There will be a little bit of spillage but the connector I believe is self stopping by the fact that it is pumped out BUT precaution as always when playing with fuel.

The quick-connector has caused me no end of problems due to dexterity and lack of grip associated with my age :grimacing: So I cut out the quick-connector on the machine side of the line and used straight connector with jubilee clips and a short hose clipped on to the Tank side connector.

With your photos, if you transfer them to your computer first then attach it would help as I’m writing blindly and only guessing we have the same set-up.

You can’t be a luddite, you ride a Moto Guzzi :joy:

Do not undo those nuts! The one on the left is your Fuel Level Sensor. Just disconnect the wiring to it. The one on the right is your electric fuel tap. Undo the hose clamp and pull of the hose, hope fully it wont leak and then disconnect the wiring… That should do ya!

Thank you Nick!

I quickly stuck a golf tee in the end of the fuel pipe to minimise spillage. Good luck :+1:
