Hi guys, in the process of restoring a 73cc Cardellino.
Before I butcher it, can anyone advise how to remove the rotor ?
Hi Ed, you need to undo the nut which has a normal thread. You will to make a special tool that screws into the large internal thread of the flywheel. The tool must also have an internal thread so you can screw a modified bolt down onto the end of the crankshaft. Tightening bolt will then force the flywheel off the crankshaft taper.
I hope that explanation makes sense.
Hi Ed, you will also need three peg spanners. I made them from appropriately sized sockets. I just used a Dremel and file to make the cut outs. I turned up the flywheel removal on my lathe. if you want I can measure the large outside thread for you and you can have one made or do it yourself.
Cheers
Phil
Thanks for that Phil, if you can give me the thread measurement please, I do have a similar tool for a BSA bantam but I guess the thread’s different!
Hi Ed,
The external thread on the puller is 27mm dia X 1.25mm pitch. I would suggest you check and make sure yours is the same before making one as I see your flywheel is not the same as the one fitted to my 73cc Cardellino. This is not unusual as I have come across this before on electrical components. I assume Moto Guzzi had two vendors on their books at the time of manufacture.
Cheers
Phil
Thanks for that info Phil, I’ll check that out & see where I go from there .
