Cassington Bike Night - Monday, June 27th 2022

I’m told (by the proprietor of The Red Lion) that Cassington Bike Night is definitely on again this year - on the traditional date, being “last Monday of June”, so that’s Monday, June 27th this year, by my reckoning.

For those who don’t know - Cassington Bike Night is a fairly huge ‘motorcycle gathering’, generally very chilled and eclectic - you can pretty much reckon on seeing anything and everything on two wheels represented there. No entry fee, but donations are encouraged by volunteers, with benefit (afaik) going directly to the local school and other local community organisations. The village school offers some parking and a secure clothing drop-off (for a donation). Refreshments available from the pub and various stalls. No official start, but bikes start to arrive “early doors” from around 14:30-15:00 - after about 17:00 it can get very busy indeed (thousands of bikes and riders), and newly arriving bikes are then directed to sports field parking a short walk from the main area.

Large crowds are not everyone’s cup of tea, especially in these times. I’ve found, personally, that a good option is to arrive early to watch the carnival arrive, and to then leave as it starts to get busy and crowded. On a fine night, the event runs on into the late evening, I gather.

Policed, but on low key basis. Marshalled (by volunteers) and interesting/old/unique machines are waved onto the Village Green, by the marshalls and at their discretion. There is no official MGCGB presence or gathering - in fact, specifically meeting up with anyone at this event is a challenge!
