Centauro finally running.

Having bought the Centauro in Sept 2023, had many issues with it. Changed the cam sensor sorted out the starting and cutting out issues, took for a spin, was OK but not a smooth ride by any means, good with wide open throttle but only 20 mpg, good with throttle closed but trying to ride on part throttle or attempting to cruise, was a nightmare, it jerked and snatched non stop.

Took it off the road and decided to change the belts and check the oil pump and cogs. Glad I did as there was a lot of play in the pump shaft and the drive cog was very badly worn. Spoke to Joe Caruso (top bloke), bought his modified pump and cog. Peace of mind after reading the horror stories. That was 2024 taken care of.

Got it started to try and sort out this rough running. New TPS fitted, still the same, had an engine temp sensor holder machined out of brass, still the same. Every time I was doing these attempts at repair, I was setting the TPS and balancing the Throttle bodies, no luck. Scoped the signals, all there with equal duration between the sensor pick-up pulse, injector pulse and ignition pulse. Started thinking about replacing the injection for carbs and an independent ignition system. Ouch, that was not a cheap option. Bought a Guzzi-diag and found the ecu was giving me an ignition advance reading of 40 odd degrees at about 2,500 to 3,000 rpm. Not good, looked like I would have to spend nigh on 2 grand on carbs and ignition system.

Trawling through flea bay one night I found someone selling a 16M ecu for a hundred pounds, but looking at the pictures it looked like a My 16M developed by Cliff Jefferies in Australia. Bought it, and it was as I thought, put it on and the bike now about 500 miles later runs like a dream and returns mid to high 40’s mpg.

One very happy Gari.

You might want to try replacing trhe air sensor. When I purchased my 1100 Sport inj, it ran very rough and rich this cured the problem.

Thanks for the input, did think of the air and oil temp sensors, checked them out with a meter and warm fingers, they checked out OK reading wise.

Took her out today on 60 mile round trip, went beautifully so think she’s sorted, for now anyway.

Cheers, Gari.

Another thing about the air sensor.
I found on mine that the bike would act up in really cold conditions, the original position of the sensor was up next to the headlight getting really cold air when the engine was hot, (making the low down power delivery unpredictable) repositioning it to under the fuel tank sorted it out :+1:

Thanks for that info Phil, will look into doing that as it’s cold weather in front of us now. All being well (weather in particular) will take her out for a spin Saturday up to Aberystwyth.

Cheers, Gari
