centre stand lifting technique

Got new stand on, yet to fit the springs. I’ve changed from G5 stand (with foot extension to help lifting) to T3 stand with no extensions as I’ve no longer got the pannier frames. I knew it was going to be harder to lift on to stand but was wondering if there is a technique? Just tried it, takes a lot of lifting!

Push the stand down ensuring both sides are grounded. Put your weight on the crook, not the arm that sticks outwards, and she’ll just pop up so she will.Â

Yes stand on and press down on the actual foot of the stand. If you see what I mean.

You’ve reminded me I’ve heard a story long ago about the side arm bending or breaking off if you used it to push down on and raise the bike, and gave rise to a gusset being welded onto it to strengthen it. Think my Spada was like that. Not sure how true it is tho.

I’m getting used to the new stand. On old stand, (and on previous bikes: Triumph, BMW, Ducati) it was a case of stand on lever and lift. The Guzzi seems to work if I hold stand steady on ground with foot and roll the bike back, the shape of the stand is very rounded and so it lifts bike with the momentum. I think!

The Mk111 Le mans comes with that gusset fitted so presumably true.

Never had a problem getting bikes on the centre stand until my BMW GS650F. Roll the bike back with a foot on the stand lever, lift entire bike to shoulder height, topple over backwards and call for someone to get you out from under. Ack, ack.

That’s it ~ press down on the stand foot as you do it tho, helps a bit more.

The Spada III had a lifting handle that hinged out from under the seat, that might help?

Mike’s right, my Convert has the same stand as the T3, and the small prongs on either side are just for locating the stand and putting it to the ground with the toe of your boot. Don’t put any weight on them or they will break off. A Spada owning friend of mine once had a ride on my Convert, and when he tried to put it on the centrestand he stood on the small locating bar and broke it clean off!

Helps that my stand doesn’t spring up after using the prong to put it down, letting me transfer my boot to the stand foot. Needs a touch in the right direction to get it to return.

I believe that’s deliberate, the spring anchor points go over-centre so that it stays down. Unless you mean your pivots are stiff.
