Checking California engine oil

Good morning all.
Just a quick question, I’m slightly confused here I have the owners manual for my 2005 moto guzzi california EV

And it says to check the engine oil warm engine unscrew dip stick clean and screw back into the sump then remove again to check level?

But the workshop manual has a different procedure

• Shut off the engine.
• Keep the vehicle upright with both
wheels on the ground.
• Unscrew and remove the cap with dip-
stick.
• Clean dipstick.
• Refit the cap with dipstick into its hole
without tightening.
• Remove the cap with dipstick to check level.

So please advise which one is correct please. I think its probably the later but not sure.

Thank you.

Yeah, its like Hondas… Take the stick out and wipe it and then put it back in, but DONT screw it in… just pull it back out and that will give you the level.

I will admit that keeping the bike level with both wheels on the ground wil take 2 people to read the stick… It will be fine on its center stand, but yes, taking it for a little run to warm it up would be a good idea, and not just starting it and letting it warm up.
