Crack in rear mudguard - G5

I understand this is can be a common fault. I drilled a hole at the end of crack a few months ago but the crack has carried on growing past the drill hole. Any suggestions on stopping its progress? Rivet a strip of metal inside as a temporary repair? Don’t want to take it off until I have to, when I do can it be welded or is it just as well to replace it?

it will go right across eventually,you can plate it for now but budget for a replacement

Unfortunately most of the steel ones split at some point. The one on my Spada had started to go when it I bought it and it had only been used for 3 years!
I thought the G5 had the stainless guards and they do tend to last better.
