Either the bike has grown or I have shrunk !

Took my Le Mans out for its maiden and rather short run today just to get the feel of her and test the brakes, etc.

I really struggled to get my feet up to the pegs, so either its my 64 year joints that do not want to bend as much as they used to or this one has its foot pegs set about 2" higher than I last remember 25 years ago.

I can see it would not be too difficult to make some lowered pegs to fit to the hangers, but do Guzzi or anyone else offer such devices ready made ?

I vaguely remember there being some adjustment in the Tarozzi rearsets I had a few years back, but not to the extent you mention. I feel sure I’ve heard mention of a set with some sort of eccentric rotational adjustment on the pegs, too, but not sure if that was in relation to a LM. It may have been an article by one of the makers, such as Kaffee Maschine, or Officine Rossopuro - but if it were, then get ready to stretch your wallet.

Other than Tarozzi, and bespoke makers, I’ve only ever heard of Agostini rearsets mentioned in regard to LeMan’s foot controls.

Next…?

Tarozzi rearsets can be fitted upside down to lower the pegs by a couple in inches.

The standard footrests are quite high and far back when compared to a lot of other bikes.

Indeed, but I simply never remembered them being so high. I have designed a lowered peg and have ordered the materials to make these. A rough drawing is attached.

The other immediately obvious issue is the impossible to reach side stand whilst sat on the bike.

Is there a cure for that one ?

The best cure for the dodgy side stand is to fit one from a LeMans 4 or 3, Spada 3 or some later T5’s. It mounts in the middle of the bike from the gearbox bolt and centre stand bolt. You need a couple of longer bolts and a bracket that Gutsibits sell. I have heard it is a little bit light and can bend in use, you might be able to come up with something stronger.

This is one fitted to my Spada (same frame and footrests) It does spring up when you lift the bike up, some like this, some don’t.

I had the same problem with the footpegs, but streching out every morning and alls good now.
I also fitted a 1970,s triumph side stand.

When this bracket affixes does the lower bent section where the stand affixes protrude outward from the frame or inward towards it. I am going to make one as Gutsibits are out of stock and non committal as to when they will have one again. I can work out the dimensions from the photo using the mount holes as a reference dimension. Can someone tell me what gauge or thickness the steel plate is please. I would guesstimate ~ 4mm.

Thanks

The metal should be the same thickness as the front mounted bracket, I would guess around 6mm.
Hopefully these images will help

With my Spada I just used to get off the bike and then put the side stand down. I welded a spur onto it to make it a bit easier.

Thanks Don - Perfect.

What is this device - looks like a sump temperature probe ?

Oh heck, I saw this and had to giggle.
When I was 18, my first big bike was the Cali3 LAPD and I loved it, it was a perfect size for me.
I am now 54 and only 2 months ago, I found a mint 1100 Carbed Cali and so I grabbed it… I thought I would NEVER get another one again.
For some strange reason, it feels like an ocean liner!!!???
Sure, I have been riding smaller bikes in the last few years and a couple of trikes, but this really does feel huge!

I love it all the same though!

Sorry I can’t help with that, I suspect it is a photo I saved off the internet when researching alternative side stand options.

Here is the final result - 3 position adjustable.

I compared the rest height with that of my Suzuki Bandit which was ~ 50 mm lower, so made this with 3 height positions to choose from.

I will keep the original rests so effectively there is the fourth original position available too.

I finished the new adjustable feet mounts today. Here is the left side mounted in the centre 50mm lower position. The flip up pivot still works and I don’t think i will be leaning over far enough to cause any issues with ground fouling !

That looks like a neat job.
You may end up with a step up to the rear brake pedal, as you can’t drop it down very far or it will touch on the exhaust.

Don

Spot on - The rear brake is almost unusable so looks like I will need to make a new lever that sets the pedal end further out and down.
