I have a 1990 cali 3 fitted with a Bosch alternator,my charging light is flickering dimly, looking at the alternator brushes they seem quite short and the springs seem well down,is there a minimum length for the brushes? and which brush should be in the front pocket,as its generating a/c does it matter?

From Guzziology……

They are considered wom out when down to half their original length of 16.5 mm (.650"). When in doubt replace them.

It’s worth going through the wiring connectors to make sure all the connections are clean and not causing resistance, not forgetting the ignition switch and the multi connector under the tank.

Apart from worn brushes, too low an idle can cause a flickering charging light. If the idle is raised with the throttle and it disappears, then that is more likely to be the problem.
