Just seen a Dutch NATO V50 advertised. Are there any major differences / problems with these compared to the ‘standard’ V50?
probably wired for convoy lights, my ex mod land-rover is.
didn’t they also have a kick-starter?
different gearing?
So, this is weird mixture of V35 and V50: gearing(actually set of primary cogs only) from V35 - you ride on 5th, while it revs like normal V50 on 4th. And actually one of the cogs is very special, being machined to cooperate with kickstart;
and heads are from V35 too, with smaller valves, and I reckon, smaller carbs too. All probably to help the bike to keep up with marching army columns.
While I know the top end difference from some outside sources only, I am dead sure about gearbox - I did for my standard V50 special cog to employ NATO kickstart. I had to interbred them both:
And here how the inners of kickstart look and work:
…but I tell you: a pleasure of kickstarting your V50 - priceless!!
