Exhaust & Balance Pipe Question 1982 V50III

I understand the principle behind having a balance pipe in the system but does anyone have experience of removing it and the impact?
I ask because for mainly cosmetic reasons I would like to shorten the length of the down pipe but keep the existing Lanfranconi silencer and adding a 30 degree upsweep bend section to the down pipe. The ideal length means the balance pipe could/would be removed - alternatively a replacement balance pipe could be fitted closer to the engine exhaust port. The unknown factor of course is how this might alter or (play havoc with) the overall gas flow dynamics and potentially affect carburation and have a negative effect on performance .
Maybe someone knows of an aftermarket (tested) solution to a sportier exhaust (not the Monza).
Thanks Roy

Someone gave me some silencers and I put them on my loop, as mine were rather tatty. Loop silencers have the balance pipe stubs just behind the joint to the header pipes and the replacements didn’t so I left the balance pipe off. More willing to rev and seemed generally a bit perkier but I couldn’t put up with the vibration so I patched mine up and put them back on.

Thanks interesting to note so…On reflection - in the interest of keeping as much 'standard ’ as possible thinking first to keep balance pipes & shorten downpipe to maintain overall length & see what happens if anything - then remove balance pipe and compare

Not tried altering my v50 system but I did have some earlier experience.
Many years ago I built a Morgan-style 3 wheeler to which I fitted a big block guzzi engine. Initially I ran an exhaust down each side of the body with no connection between them. Seemed to work fine but then I had no experience of anything else. After a while I experimented and fitted a balance pipe between the two. It made a huge difference to the low down torque. If Guzzi have designed the exhaust that way then there will be a good reason for it.

Wise words!
Thanks
