external filter loop frame?

This is from ebay de and says it fits 850 GT.Questions :-I pressume it is an external filter? How does the filter fit to the sump extender?Would it solve the “no filter” problem on loop frame bikes? It’s expensive, but it caught my eye and I wondered…I’ve read some stuff about mods, but they say they are not the full answer, but better than nothing.Comments please - would something like this be worthwhile (forget the price for now) It’s the principle I’m interested in.

I’ve seen this as well. It looks the same as item 300378000 in the Stein Dinse catalogue. I did follow a trail on the web to the manufacturer and it does look like a good piece of kit providing full filtration unlike some other modifications. The photos in the catalogue are tiny but the filter mounting block fits to the underside of the engine block so that the oil filter is pointing downward inside the sump. It looks like the right angled brass fitting goes down into the mesh grill which is stuck to the original sump. The sump spacer gives the necessary clearance for the internal filter. It’s 239Euro at Stein Dinse and there is an info pdf in German.

I’ve scanned the page from the catalogue. The pictures are small but do show the kit fitted. It’s got to be worthwhile hasn’t it? I want to get one for my V7Sport but don’t have the cash at the moment. I’ve spent out.

Some external oil filter issues discussed here on Triking forum.
Original 850 engined Triking had mods done using the blanked off ports in sump / lower casing. I’ll see if I can find the article. Used a Norton filter IIRC. Note also perceived drawback in not dropping off sump. Unsure how relevant nowadays with synthetic and better filters

By the looks of the kit though it’s not an external filter.

You still have to drop the sump to change the filter.

Yes thanks, I emailed the sellers and they told me it was internal, but provided full filtration.I haven’t got my bike yet and I’m already rebuilding it! not sure if I ought to afford it.

Mmm. This will not appear on my rebuild list. The cleaned out sludge trap and regular oil changes will suffice. This procedure seems to have worked reasonably well for the last 40 plus years and strangely many still exist. Changing the oil often now will see a lot of bikes getting better service than they ever did.
Only IMHO.

Are you thinking of this?

http://www.harpermoto.com/harpers-outsider-for-pre-1998-moto-guzzi.html

The Harpers one is only suitable for engines that already have an internal cartridge filter (ie. not loop frame models.)
The Harpers kit moves the existing cartridge filter outside the engine.
