Filter box drain plug

The V7 850 Centenario service schedule says to check the filter box drain plug. I can’t find it, nor on the parts diagrams. Anyone give me a pointer?

There are three in total I found. The main two have clear, plastic, bullet-shaped tubes over the stubs. These have sealed ends and allow you to see any oil/condensation muck if present. They are held on with a spring clip which you can release and wiggle over the stub using some long-nosed pliers

The easiest to see is on the right-hand side, at the bottom of the airbox. Kneel by the footpeg facing the rear of the bike and use a torch if necessary to see it.

There is a similar one in the opposite side but I think it’s easier if you remove the left-hand side panel to improve access and your view.

You’ll need to do this in any case to see the third drain stub which faces directly outward from the airbox, again at the bottom. My bike doesn’t have a ‘catch-tube’ in this third drain and I only found it when the bike had been serviced at the dealers and the oil level was at the max and it spat a little out and dribbled down the swingarm.

I often get a mayonnaise mix of oil and condensation collecting in the tubes, especially at this time of year. I just clean it out using cotton buds and check the bottom of the airbox inside and wipe out anything that’s collected in there occasionally. I’ve only ever has a tiny amount in there and following the advice if other Guzzisti, I keep the oil level at the halfway mark and this has reduced the blow-by.

Hope this helps.
