Flywheel problems

I know this will not apply to the majority of Guzzi riders who use this site.but thought I would share my experience with anyone who has a bike using a flywheel generator (mainly 2 stroke).
After having problems starting and particularly when the engine was warm,I decided to have the flywheel re-magnetised. This transformed the engine and certainly made life a bit easier on the right hand leg. The bikes I have had this done on are a British one, and on a 1958 Cardellino.
When you think of it, the bike is 1958, everything is subject to wear with age, so flywheel magnetism must have also suffered .But of course we have no means of checking its strength–it is just a guessing game. The re-magnetising was not expensive, and I would certainly recommend it. Current cost is £25.

I’ve just seen your article on flywheel re-magnetising, just what I need for my old Dot trials bike but didn’t know it was available for a sensible price. Many thanks for the information.
