Frame numbers/ homologation numbers

Applying for certificate of conformity from Piaggio Vintage for 82 G5
VIN number ok from plate, they also wanted what’s stamped on the headstock.
VIN number starts VG
On Headstock starts DGM ie totally different.
Had mild panic bike isn’t what it says it is.
Turns out the DGM number is the homologation number for a batch of frames and is correct.
Spent ages googling Guzzi DGM to no avail. There’s plenty about frame numbers but nothing about DGM numbers - over to someone with knowledge who can set this straight… ?

Why do you need a COC? I don’t think they apply to bikes of this age so DVLA should register it without one.

The DGM number is for Italian national homologation not EU.

I can look up the legislation if I remember tomorrow….

Need it to import bike to Greece.
I think it’s due to age, not sure if it’s an EU thing, probably just Greece…

There is anexplanation of the homologation numbers on the Dutch Guzzi club website database here…

For a G5, the actual frame number will read something like VG12345 insert the numbers stamped on the headstock or on the identity plate if you have one. The frame stamping should be on the right side of the steering stem.
