Front master cylinder

Can anyone advise me what overhaul kit I need to do the front brake master cylinder on my 88 Le mans 1000. It is the original MC.

Hi
Depending whether you have a MkIV or a 1000 rebuild kits are:
MkIV , Brembo PS13 (Rectangular Reservoir), Kit Part No: 10436250
1000, Brembo (Trapezoidal Reservoir), Kit Part No; 28659300
All currently in stock at Stein Dinse.

Thanks Nik. It is a 1988 1000 so I think it is a mkV but it has the rectangular reservoir so it would be the PS13 kit that I need.

I have dismantled the master cylinder and it was a mess in there, probably explains why the lever wasn’t returning when bleeding the brake. I have ordered a new kit from Stein Dinse. I have cleaned the barrel and now looks a lot better in there. When knocking the piston out it all fell on the bench with the spring and unfortunately I don’t know which end of the spring the plastic cap fits on. Does it fit against the seal or the other end.

Plastic cap away from the lever end

This is for a different model but I think the set up is the same.

Here are some photo’s of the piston and I noticed that the hole in the cap matches the peg on the end also does that rusty ring in the MC have to come out, I am assuming so as it’s not black like the MC. There was a white plastic thing and black rubber shroud trapped under it.

I believe the second photo is the right way around as the lever will have to press on the piston (not the spring) as the spring is there to return the piston and so the lever when you stop applying pressure to the lever.

As I said above this is not the same as my master cylinder and so I can only assume that the operation is the same.

The rusty ring holds the piston seal in place (black rubber) I’m not sure what the white plastic part does.

Best of luck

I think you are right Chris as it seems too much of a coincidence that the hole in the plastic cap is the same as that peg dia. I reckon that rusty ring has to come out as in the new kit there is a chrome ring that goes over the rubber shroud and white thing that you knock in after fitting everything.

Just found this and it shows how it should look.
