Hi folks, has anyone else had a service/software update in the last month causing issues with the fuel gauge and range counter?
My gauge and range were brilliant and pretty accurate for 15,000 miles, but post service have taken to plummeting to zero after 5 or6 litres are used. I assumed initially that it would recalibrate but 300 miles on, it hasn’t.
Got a low fuel warning the other day when I knew it wasn’t, did 28 miles “on reserve” according to the computer and managed to squeeze 6 litres into the tank at the filling station this morning. Bizarrely the av fuel mog is still showing 53.4 mpg.
I’d be inclined to look at hardware faults, rather than software, and they would be easier to resolve.
I’m not sure what the fuel tank sensor technology is on your bike, but if it’s similar to cars, there will be a cluster of sensors together in one unit, mounted somewhere in the tank, with a harness stub connecting it through the main harness to the ECU/instrument cluster display controller.
To me, it’s either a level sensor failure in the tank sender unit, or (more likely) a connector that has been disturbed, eg. if the tank was taken off for access during servicing. It may not have been correctly pushed back together on replacement.
It’s clear the ECU is measuring fuel flow rate accurately, so it’s not there - which again points to either the fuel tank sensor or the connector to the harness.
I think you may well be right, starting with a full tank today, I was able to observe both the fuel gauge and range counter plummet, in spite of the average mpg actually improving… that suggests the computing at ECU level is OK
I suspec the tank and therefore connectors etc were disturbed to replace the alternator belt at service. I’m chasing my dealer now.
I’ve had the same on my Mandello S. ran out of juice with 80km range still showing on the dash. It’s an intermittent fault an I now religiously zero the trip and usually the range is accurate.
My dealer in Spain is not interested…
Otherwise a truly lovely bike.
