Fuel tap cap, 750T or V50-III, any alternatives?

Hi All, I’ve recently bought a tank (V50-III, same as 750T) to refinish but I’m looking for a petrol cap. The original one is just a 2-tanged screw-in bayonet chrome item which normally lives under a locked cover. I believe that the 1000SP uses the same item. This being so, I suppose any cap of the same fixing and size would do, even one from a car or a British bike (?).

Has anyone tried an alternative fuel cap, or does anyone have a spare cap to sell?

Cheers, Bob.

I possibly may have one, but can you be more specific, a pic or drawing. And no, Brit bikes use different threads to Italian ones, I believe. But happy to learn if I’m wrong!

Hi Adam, no threads involved as the cap is a bayonet fit into the hole in the tank - 2x metal tangs engage and the rubber seal keeps the petrol in.

Original tank cap appears to be part# 14103955. This part is no longer available apparently. On checking the Fowlers Parts website this part was used on the 860 T5, T5-IIII, GT1000, LM1000, 1000SP-III, Strada 1000, and of course my 750T and the V50-III.

On checking Gutsibits, they did have some caps made up, but these are no longer available - part TAA14955 or TAG14955, sold out, or out of production. See the pictures here:

Looks like the same as the SP1000.

They seem to be as rare as hens teeth.

I had “the last second hand one” from Gutsibits about 4 years ago.

I might still have my original but the tangs have snapped. If I’ve still got it you can borrow it to see if you can find something similar.

I won’t be able to look for it until tomorrow evening though.

Oh no, no such a thing in my boxes - sorry.

I knew I’d seen one recently for sale, it just took me a while to find it again!
How’s this…..

This is not the same as the Spada

Here’s my old one. The tangs have split and they’re spring steel

Thanks All for your replies. I would have thought that something which seems to have quite a lot of commonality between models would either still be available, or might still be made by an aftermarket outfit.

Don thanks for the Ebay link. I would like to get another cap, but that is more expensive than the tank I bought  . In the end I will just have to re-use the cap that I have on the bike, when the rough tank has been refinished.

Thanks All!
